Cured. Maybe this will work for you too!

Short Answers: (for those who don’t want to read my story)
- Get rid of your mattress.
- Get rid of any leather covered furniture.

I removed these items from my home and within 3 weeks my urticaria was gone.

My Story:
My heart goes out to anyone who’s felt lost and hopeless in trying to identify the cause of their chronic idiopathic urticaria. I know first hand how horrible this condition can be.

Some Context:
I had incredibly painful full body hives, swollen lips and eyelids at night. Constant fear of angioedema of my throat while sleeping. This lasted for around 6 months. A pure nightmare. I also oddly had an acute sharp pain in the middle of my chest.

Solution:
As strange as it sounds I followed my sense of smell. After the first few months of getting urticaria my sense of smell had become extremely heightened. At home I noticed a subtle odor that didn’t resonate well with me. It was a very subtle sweet chemical smell. I made it my mission to find the source.

One night when my home was all closed up I began the search. It’s essential to have no drafts in the house. I walked from room to room closing my eyes and gently breathing in the air. That’s when I noticed the sweet chemical smell again. It was spread throughout the house but I found it to be strongest in the guest room. The smell was coming from the new-ish dyed leather bed frame/headboard and mattress. Remember this was a subtle smell.

I removed these items and over two weeks or so the smell slowly subsided. On the third week my urticaria started to clear and no more swollen lips or eyelids! The sharp pain in my chest also disappeared. I honestly cried after sleeping through a full night.

I thereafter stopped all medication (responsibly with the guidance from my doctor) and have since been clear from all urticaria! It’s been 5 years and still clear.

I’m blessed and grateful to have found the cause and I pray this will also be the answer you’re looking for.

Btw, most people think I’m nuts when I talk about this but it worked for me!

Sending much love to everyone in the community.

There’s a lot of information on the web about how dyed leather, mattresses and foam filled furniture are full of chemicals. I highly recommend looking into it for yourself.

  1. I found this very interesting, i sleep in my livingroom chair, because my bed triggers my urticaria and i cant get to sleep, my mattress isnt very old, ive been using nom bio fairy on my sheets and duvet cover, and yes, i have noticed a sweet smell, i was blaming other things that i felt were the culprit. Its like trying to be sherlock holmes, sleeping in the chair is the only way i can sleep, my feet on the pouffe, but this is causing a very bad back and edema in my legs...i dont know what else to do...if i buy another new mattress , and find i still cant sleep, ill just be a few hundred pounds out. For nothing.

Yes, it certainly is interesting. However, as you mentioned, it can be quite expensive to replace a mattress. Before doing so, you may want to do a process of elimination on a smaller scale to pinpoint what may be a trigger. For example, it is much less expensive to change up your laundry detergent or your bedding before replacing your mattress.

I hope you can find the culprit so you can get back to your bed and enjoy a restful night's sleep.
