Has anyone found anything to calm mast cell activation when antihistamines don't work?

Hi,
I'm new here, I was just wondering whether any of you have found any supplement or anything else that has successfully calmed down mast cell activation? All I seem to be doing is wasting money on stuff that doesn't work at the moment. You know how it is when you itch manically in every part of your body, you get desperate and willing to try anything. Thanks in advance for any replies.

  1. Hi ,

  2. Has anyone tried Xolair? My doctor recommended it but the side effects sounded scary.

    1. HI ,
      Thanks for reaching out.
It's understandable, so many medications these days come with interesting (and unwanted) side effects.
I will say there are quite a few in this community that have mentioned taking Xolair as their current treatment. I do hope a few will chime in here with their experiences.
In the meantime, I thought I'd share an article you may find interesting. It includes one of our Patient Leaders personal experience with Xolair: https://chronic-hives.com/living/hives-medical-history.
It's important to do your research and share your concerns with your healthcare team before starting any new treatment.
Please don't hesitate to reach out here with any questions or concerns.
All my best, Doreen (Team Member)

  3. From what I've read about it I don't think I would want to try it, yes the side effects sound awful and I've got plenty from the medications I'm already taking. Don't trust much of what big Pharma puts out at all these days I'm afraid.

    1. ,
It's definitely a personal choice. What works for one may not work for someone else. Kindly, Doreen (Team Member)

  4. Thank you for sending the article. I am getting desperate for relief.
    A few questions-
    - Has anyone been diagnosed with Urticaria Vasculitis? It’s a rare form of hives that includes inflammation of the blood vessels. I am getting bruises in random places on my body.
    - Has anyone tried red light therapy?
    - What other medications have people tried that worked or didn’t work? Or other therapies? Naturopathic choices?
    Thank you!

    1. ,
First and foremost, I wanted to check in and see how you are doing.
If I may add, many in this community have found a dermatologist or an allergist/immunologist helpful in diagnosing and treating chronic hives. These are doctors who can perform more detailed tests for skin and allergic conditions.
From what I understand, urticaria vasculitis involves longer lasting (and perhaps more painful) welts and bruising.
I do hope others will chime in here with their own personal experiences. In the meantime I am including a few additional links that may provide some helpful information: https://chronic-hives.com/diagnosis, https://chronic-hives.com/treatment and https://chronic-hives.com/living/red-light-therapy
Sending you all my best, Doreen (Team Member)
