Hives

Hello I have had hives for about 2 weeks now and don’t know why they came, I can’t think of anything different that I’ve eaten or used. My son has a new puppy at his house so we are thinking all sorts. I’ve had swelling of my eyelids one then the other then part of my lip and then my top lip. The hives seem to come during the night and then calm down during the day..I’m wondering how long this will last as it is awful and never experienced anything like it before. Thanks

  1. ,
My goodness, I'm sorry to hear what you are going through.
Many people with chronic hives experience swelling around eyes, lips, and face. This is called angioedema. Some people get hives and angioedema together. Other people have angioedema without hives.

    1. thank you for your reply. It is so good to listen to everyone’s stories on here… it really helps a lot. I had an allergy blood test this week to see if anything pops up. Hives seem to be calming down dare I say so we will see how long it lasts. They are mostly on the top of my legs now… I have had them for 3 weeks now.

      1. Thank you for that information Doreen it was very helpful. Do you think my hives and swelling could be due to my hormones as I am 56 years old.Its so hard to come up with the answer as to why it suddenly came on out of nowhere. Any ideas welcome… thankyou so much.

      2. Hi ,
I hope this post finds you doing a bit better.
As you may have read, in almost 90 percent of chronic hives cases, the triggers and causes are unknown. I realize that is frustrating to hear. Although I can't say for certain what is triggering your hives/swelling, I can say that most auto-immune conditions in women stem from genetics, hormonal changes or environmental factors.
